Joseph H. Neal officiating, the Rev. Jesse Boulware delivering the eulogy, and the Rev. Ronald McClurkin, and the Rev. Jacob German assisting. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Sumter, 100, died Saturday June 9, 2001 at the Chester County Nursing Center. Born in Manning on Nov. 27, 1900, he was the son of the late Turner Sumter and Mary Tindal Sumter. He joined the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. and retired from Lock Joint pipe company in Waharton, N.J. Survivors are one daughter, Anna Sumter (Rev. Jesse) Boulware of Chester; one brother-in-law, Charlie Evans of Newark, N.J.; and one sister-in-law, Etheline Edwards of East Orange, N.J.; three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Kings Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kings Funeral Home.
