Charles Winford Sanders, 72, died Monday, June 25, 2001, in a Charleston hospital. Rev. Sanders was born in Anderson County on November 18, 1928, a son of the late James P. and Robie Watson Sanders. He was a graduate of Anderson High School and attended Bible College in Mauldin. Rev. Sanders worked for a time at a restaurant and a textile mill in Anderson. In 1958, he began his ministry with the Lee Shoals Church of God. Rev. Sanders was also pastor of North Augusta Church of God, Georgetown Church of God, and retired from Goose Creek Church of God in 1999. After returning to Georgetown to live, he continued to be active in the work of the Church of God. During his ministry, Rev. Sanders ran revivals for the Sioux Indians in South Dakota. He was responsible for ht organization of a number of new churches including Six Mile Crossing Church of God in Georgetown County, Holy Temple in Murrells Inlet, Stall Road Church of God and Carnes Road Church of God, both in Moncks Corner. Rev. Sanders served on the Church of God State Council, Home for Children Board, and the Church of God Evangelism Board. Surviving are, his wife, Lillie Mae Arnold Sanders of Georgetown; three daughters, Beth Oxford and her husband, John of Sevierville, Tenn., Diane Robinson and her husband, Steve of North Augusta, and Debbie Kirkland, and her husband James of Grovetown, Ga.; a son, Charles W. Sanders, Jr., and his wife, Melissa, of Georgetown; a brother, Benny "Bud" Sanders of Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Clark of Starr and Brenda Jancen of Anderson; nine grandchildren, Johnna Beth Green and her husband Dickie, Amanda Oxford, Melinda Ogle, Jeff Adams and his wife Janet, Nathan Adams and his wife Pamela, Annette Greene and her husband Freddie, James Adams and his wife, Jamie, Joseph Kirkland and his wife Amy and Ben Sanders; seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Adams, Aaron Adams, Jordan Adams, Dylan Ogle, Joshua Greene, Paigelyn Adams, and Pearson Adams. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, John John Oxford and James Oxford. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11 o'clock in Georgetown Church of God. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Harold Downing, the Rev. Wilton Scruggs, and the Rev. Bobby Wynn. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Church of God from 12 o'clock noon until 9 o'clock, Wednesday.
