Carl Edward Peterson Sr., 64, of Beaufort, husband of Mary Peacock Peterson, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in Eden Gardens of Beaufort. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight in Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in The Baptist Church of Beaufort with burial with full military honors. Mr. Peterson was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Henry County, Ala.,, a son of Barney Isiah Peterson and Ila Bullard Peterson. He joined the Baptist Church of Beaufort in 1973 where he served as a deacon for more than 20 years. He served as chairman of the Deacon Board and was recently honored as Deacon Emeritus. He taught Sunday School for 25 years and was actively involved in the Wednesday night suppers. He was an active Gideon for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Beaufort Rotary Club, where served as president and sergeant of arms and in other offices. He was a member of the Will Fitzgerald Masonic Lodge, Georgetown, Ga., for 25 years. He served in Phu-Bai, Vietnam as provost marshall operations officer, Task Force X-ray. He later served as adjutant for the Basic Officers School, Quantico, Va. He retired from the U.S. marine Corps in 1978 at the Weapons Training Battalion on Parris Island. He was a charter member of the Mustang Association Inc. Upon is retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital for five years. He served 18 years as associate judge for the City of Beaufort and also served with Court Ministerial Services for the Town of Hilton Head. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Howard Peterson. Surviving are his wife, Mary of Beaufort; two sons, Carl E. Peterson II of Beaufort and David M. Peterson of Eufaula, Ala.; a daughter, Jennifer P. Manley of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, B.N. Peterson of Alabaster, Ala.; and four grandchildren. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to The Gideon International, P.O.
