She was born in Saluda Country to the late John and Carrie Forrest Donavan. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of St. Angela Academy in Aiken, SC, and a 1927 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing. She was married to the late Matthew E. Murphy, Sr. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and past President of the Women's Sodality. She is survived by a son, Matthew E.Murphy, Jr.,and wife, Lillian of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter, Shirley Duncan of Charleston , two sisters, Agnes D. Ford of Warrenville, SC., and Catherine D. Brantley of Aiken, SC. Also survived by five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson Matthew E. Murphy, III. The family will receive friends Friday, June 22nd from 6-8 PM with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:30 PM. at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM., Saturday, June 23rd at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
