Murphey, 64, of McPhersonville Road, near Yemassee, died early Tuesday morning at his residence after an extended illness. (The Post and Courier June 13, 2001) Alva Finley Murphey Alva Finley Murphey, 64, of Yemassee, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Murphey was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Corsicana, Texas, a son of Will T. and Alice Dees Murphey. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with more than 20 years of service. He had served in Vietnam. Surviving are his wife, Vicki Ann Murphey of Yemassee; a son, David Glenn Murphey of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, J.W. Murphey of Canton, Texas, Harvey W. and Hughey C. Murphey of Greenville, Texas; three sisters, Flora Wright of Dallas; Velma A. Johnson of Nashville and Mary Moates of Lewisville, Texas. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to the A.L.S. Association, 21021 Ventura Blvd., Suite 321, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
