Gilmore Ave., Holly Hill, died Saturday at and Orangeburg hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the French Huguenot Church in Charleston. Avinger Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Miss Steedman was born in Atlanta a daughter of the late William Kelsey Steedman and Mrs. Lillie Mae Stephens Steedman. She graduated from the "Old Atlanta Conservatory of Music." She was a feature writer for five years for The Atlanta Journal Sunday magazine. She wrote a column called the "Bookworm" for The News and Courier, Charleston. In 1942, she published her first novel "But You Will Be Back," a best seller, and in 1962, she published a biblical novel "Refuge in Avalon," which was published in the United States and England. In 1970, Miss Steedman published "South Carolina Colony" for young people. In 1984, she found in England the lost "Royal Seal of South Carolina" for which she received "The Order of the Palmetto" in 1985. In 1970, she wrote the history of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Eutawville. She is survived by two cousins, Mrs. Toy Finch of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Mrs. Elizabeth Prince Leigh of Miami, Fla., a caregiver, Mrs. Linda Ingram of Holly Hill.
