Mayers, husband of Gloria Umecker Mayers, residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services in Pierpont Baptist Church, Friday morning, June 23, 2001, at 11 o'clock. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc, West Ashley Chapel, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 o'clock. Branch 50 of the Fleet Reserve will conduct a service in the Chapel at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Mayers was born in Clarksdale, Miss., the son of Chester Lee Mayers and Edna McKelvin Mayers Whittington. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer (USN), a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of Pierpont Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans and the Fleet Reserve Chapter #50. Survivors include his wife of 47 years; one daughter, Sharon Rogers-Ilderton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, James D. Mayers of Charleston, SC, Chester Lee Mayers, II, and David H. Mayers, both of Ladson, SC., one sister, Marlene Fleming of Fulton, Miss,; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Predeceased by a son, Alan Ray Mayers.
