The funeral services will be held in East Cooper Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, S.C., Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Texarkana, Texas. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, this Friday afternoon, from 5 until 7 o'clock. Melanie was born in Brinkley, Ark., a daughter of Gilbert Lane and Marilyn Chance Lane. She was a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, and Colorado Tech where she earned a degree in logistics. Melanie worked for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., and she was most recently employed with Hitt Contracting in Charleston. Surviving are her husband of Mount Pleasant, her parents of Texarkana, Texas, her son, Victor A. Long, and her daughter, Julia L. Long, both of Mount Pleasant, S.C., a sister, Crisney Lane of Texarkana, Texas, a brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Brittany Lane of Tyler, Texas, and a sister and brother-in-law, April and Rick Wegman of Stuart, Fla. Melanie also leaves behind her grandmother, Elizabeth Lane and grandfather, James Chance of Texarkana, Texas, as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
