He was born Tuesday, February 3, 1931, in Charleston, the son of the late Walker James and Mary Louise Burmester Kruger. Mr. Kruger was a retired charter member of the International Longshoreman's Association, Local 1771 clerk and checkers and chief clerk of Stevedoring Services of America. He was a member of the Knights of Columbia, Rev. P.N. Lynch Council No. 704, the Charleston Lodge No. 242, BPO Elks and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a representative of the New York Stock Exchange and Volunteer with AARP tax Aid Program. Mr. Kruger graduated from Bishop England High School, class of 1952, and continued graduate studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary W. Kruger; one son, Kevin Joseph of Meggett SC, one daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Stankowitz of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Walter James Kruger, Jr., of Charleston, SC; and Louis John Kruger of Isle of Palms, SC, and six grandchildren, Ashton, Joshua, Brodie, and Breann Moore of Charleston, SC, Kaitlin Gene and Cary Louise Kruger of Meggett, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 11 am, Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Blessed Sacrament Church. The Rite of Committal will be in Riverview Memorial Park. Friends may call Tuesday evening at the Funeral home 1620 Savannah Hwy., from 6 to 8 p.m. The Rosary will be recited this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, Building Fund, 5 St. Teresa Dr., Charleston, SC 29407, or Lutheran Hospice, 753 Johnnie Dobbs Blvd., Suite 100, Mt.
