Born January 14, 1923 in Turbeville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Agnes McCormack Hicks. Mrs. Karnes was a graduate of Lake City High School, had attended Anderson Jr., College and was a graduate of USC. She had been a school teacher at Georgetown City Schools and Maryville Grammer School for 32 and half years. Mrs. Karnes was amember of the Eastern Star in Georgetown for over 50 years. She was a member of First Baptist of Surfside Beach and was preceded in death by a brother, Pvt. Andrew J . Hicks, Jr. Surviving are her husband, Thomas J. Karnes, Sr.; son, Thomas J. ``Tommy'' Karnes, Jr. of Myrtle Beach; daughters,Edythe K. Hill and Virginia K. Harley both of Mt. Pleasant and three grandson. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Monday at First Baptist of Surfside Beach. Burial will follow at Ocean Woods. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00, Sunday at GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME, BEACH CHAPEL. Memorials may be made to First Baptist of Surfside Beach, 711 16th Ave. North, Surfside Beach, SC 29575.
