TITLE: John Andrew Youmans SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 8, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** Mr. John Andrew Youmans, 79, of 603 Wade Hampton Road in Hampton, died Wednesday evening in the Medical College of Georgia after a brief illness. Mr. Youmans was born in Hampton County, December, 1921, a son of the late John A. and Susie Elizabeth Brunson Youmans. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 10th Mountain Division, and receiving both the Bronze and Silver Star. He was a Registered Forrester having worked with both Georgia Pacific and Coastal Lumber Company in Augusta, and operated Youmans Forrestry Company before his retirement. He was a member of the South Carolina Forrestry Association and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He had been a member of the Wade Hampton Lions Club, the Rotary Club and the Varnville United Methodist Church. He was known throughout Hampton County for his Blue Bird Houses that he made along with many other wood-working projects. He was married to the late Kathryn Schneider Youmans. Surviving are, one son, John A. Youmans, III, of Aiken; two daughters, Kathryn Elizabeth McCurdy of Aiken and Mary Sue Youmans of Marietta, Ga.; an aunt, Elizabeth Youmans McCoy of Greenville and four grandchildren, Andy Youmans, Paul McCurdy, Shelly McCurdy, and Katie Youmans. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, in the Brunson United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Carolyn Matthews, with burial in the Brunson Family Cemetery directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, and Saturday until the hour of services. Active Pallbearers are, Brooks and Jim Curran, John Harrison, Andrew C. Johnson, Frankie Webb, and Willis Harriott. The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the Varnville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 45, Hampton, S.C. 29924-0296.
