Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Mr. Stewart was born in Charleston, S.C., on December 5, 1947, the son of Joseph William Stewart, Sr., and Leila V. Spaulding Stewart. He received his B.A. degree from Baptist College at Charleston and attended Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. Mr. Stewart was a retired educator with the Charleston County Public School System. He served as a member and Lay Leader at Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Lay Reader and former Acolyte Master at St. Peter's and St. George's Episcopal Churches. He is survived by two aunts, Bessie Hughes and Kate McCarter, both of Charleston, S.C.; one uncle, Tom Stewart of Newberry, S.C.; cousins, Bill and Diane Spaulding and their daughters, Paige Lawrence and Suzanne Turner and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joseph William Stewart Leadership Fund, c/o First Federal of Charleston, 1315 North Main St., Summerville, S.C. 29483.
