Bright Sr., 69, of the Jenkins community in Yemassee died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Bayview Nursing Center. A wake service will be from today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Big Estate. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the church with burial in Bonny Hall Cemetery. Mr. Bright was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Savannah and was a son of Elijah Johnson and Anna Young. He was educated in Beaufort County schools and retired as a City of Beaufort employee with more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Usher Board and a Deacon. Survivors include his father of Sheldon; his wife, Ernestine "Belle" Bright of Jenkins; five daughters, Shirley Washington of Early Branch, Annabell Brown of Washington, D.C., Helen Churn of College Park, Ga, Audrey Myers of Jenkins, Patricia Bright of Yemassee and an adopted daughter, Yvette Brown of Sheldon; six sons, Roy Brown, Stanley Bright, Ronnie Bright and Roscoe Bright, all of Jenkins; Alphonso Bright of Hardeeville and James Bright Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille Smith of White Plains, N.Y. and Clara Major of Beaufort; four stepsisters, Ruth Pringle and Clary Gary, both of Prescott; Lena Gary of Ridgeland and Jannie Mae Graham of New York City; a stepbrother, Andrew Holmes of Seattle; 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
