Gen., retired), 65, of 145 Wedgewood Place, died on June 8, 2001, in a Spartanburg hospital. A native of Lenoir City, Tenn. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Beach Vann and son of the late Harry Earl and Helen Davis Vann. He was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School. He attended Spartanburg Jr. College and was a graduate of Wofford College. He was also a graduate of Palmetto Military Academy and the War College. He was a former Shriner and was Past President of the Spartanburg Shrine Club. He retired from the South Carolina Army National Guard. He received the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. Beasley , the Legion of Merit, and 24 other military decorations, including the Order of St. Barbara. He was a life member of the VFW. Survivors include, wife, Mary Ellen Beach Vann of the home; sons, Harry Lee Vann and wife Lynn Boyd of Avondale Estates, Ga., Barry Timothy Vann and wife Priscillia Glen of Spartanburg; daughters, Carol V. and husband Robert C. Collins of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Susan V. and Husband Tim V. Haynes of Moncks Corner, S.C., Donna Christine Vann of Spartanburg; grandsons, Ryan Coggins of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Adam Vann of Spartanburg ; granddaughter, Mary Louise Vann of Spartanburg; sisters, Carol V. Roland Davis and husband, Dr. Mac Davis of Spartanburg. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday at the Petty-Bobo Funeral Chapel, 1860 Cannons Campground Road. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2002, at the Bobo Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to S.C. National Guard Scholarship Fund, 924 South Stadium Road, Columbia, S.C. 29201, or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
