Rev. Garry White will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 1301 Mill St., Camden, S.C. 29020, or to Newberry College. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday evening, June 25, 2001, in KORNEGAY FUNERAL HOME, CAMDEN CHAPEL. Mr. Hutchinson, 81, died Saturday, June 23, 2001. Born in Spartanburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Herbert N. and Lillie Blackmon Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. He was a Golden Glove Boxer before and during his service in the Navy. He was a graduate of Summerville High School and Newberry College. Mr. Hutchinson received his Masters Degree from USC. His high school athletic career at Summerville High School led him into the Summerville High School Hall of Fame in baseball, football, and basketball. He was the head coach of Sumter High School Football and Baseball Teams from 1946-55. Coach Hutchinson coached the Sumter American Legion Baseball Team to the State Championship in 1950 as well as the Regionals in Charlotte, N.C. He was the head baseball coach and assistant football coach for Eau Claire from 1955-57. Then he came to Camden High School as head baseball coach and assistant football coach from 1957-76. He assisted Red Lynch to Camden's 1964 State Championship Football Team. He was a dedicated baseball and football coach and teacher as well as an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Hutchinson was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and an honorary member of the Forty and Eight of American Legion, James Leroy Belk Post 17. Surviving are his wife, Alice Martens Hutchinson, two daughters, Carole H. Koch of Greenville, S.C., Donna H. Runey of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Herbert N. Hutchinson, III, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Greg, Shay and William Koch, Patrick, Justin, Katie Runey and Christy Hutchinson Lyles; two great grandchildren, Anna Christian and Bryce Lyles; one brother, Luther Hutchinson of Summerville, S.C.; two sisters, Margaret Cromer of Summerville, S.C., and Phyllis Bray of Beaufort, S.C. Mr. Hutchinson was pre-deceased by one brother, James Hutchinson.
