Frank Harrelson, 70, of 5212 Orchard Road, Mullins, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at a Marion hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, at First United Methodist Church of Marion, with Rev. Dennis Lee and Dr. W. Ches Smith, III, officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Branch Cemetery, directed by COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Harrelson was born May 28, 1931, in Marion County, a son of the late Sam Clyde Harrelson and the late Minnie Mae Frye Harrelson. Mr. Harrelson was a district manager for Durham Life Insurance Company for some 40 years. He held the CLU designation from the American College and was the recipient of a number of achievement awards. Mr. Harrelson was a graduate of Mullins High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Before returning to Mullins, Mr. Harrelson lived in Fayettville, N.C., where he was a member of the Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities and was an ordained Deacon. Mr. Harrelson was a member of the Fayetteville Lions Club, where he held all offices and was selected Lion of the Year. Mr. Harrelson was a member of the Mullins Lions Club, where he was awarded the coveted Melvin Jones Fellow. He was an avid golfer, loved working in his yard and was a mentor for many young men, both in business, civic, church and personal life. Mr. Harrelson was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion, where he was a member of the Uncle Charlie's Hut. Surviving Mr. Harrelson are, his wife of 47 years, Betty Edwards Harrelson of the home; his children, Chris Harrelson and his wife, Sheila of Atlanta, Ga., Phyllis Harrelson Griggs and her husband, John David, of Columbia, and Church Harrelson and his wife, Lori, or Raleigh, N.C.; his grandchildren, Hunter Harrelson, Caitlin Harrelson, Elizabeth Jackson-Griggs, John David Griggs, III, Sarahanne Griggs, Lindsay Harrelson, and Ryann Harrelson; his brothers, Mitchell Harrelson, Norman Harrelson, and Mack Harrelson, all of Mullins; his sisters, Doris Ann Harrelson McMillan and Evelyn Harrelson Smith, both of Mullins; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrelson was predeceased by three brothers, Sam Harrelson, Charles Harrelson and Colon Harrelson and a sister, Dottie Jean Harrelson Jordan. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 873, Marion, S.C., or to the First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 307 Godbold St., Marion, S.C. The family will receive friends, Monday evening, from 7 until 9 p.m., at COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
