Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of the late James Rutherford and Flora Ethel Gandy Gaynor. Dr. Gaynor was a physician and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rachel McKenzie Gaynor. Surviving in addition to his first wife are two sons, James W. Gaynor of Philadelphia, Pa., and Edward Franklin Gaynor, Jr., of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Floyd Norris of Merritt Island, Fla.; a brother, Ronald Gaynor of Atlanta, Ga., and three grandchildren, Helen, Katie, and John. Funeral services for the family will be held Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Presbyterian Church, 6583 Red Springs Road, Red Springs, N.C. 28377, or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1237, Greenville, S.C. 29602.
