Fleshren died peacefully at his home in Charleston on June 29, 2001. He was born in Belleville, Ill., on March 28, 1940, the son of Catherine Fellner and Gilbert Fleshren.Mr. Fleshren was a graduate of Florida State University, St. Joseph Seminary and Washington Theological Union. He was a Franciscan Friar and priest from 1973 until 1978. He was organist at St. John the Baptist Cathedral and director of the Citadel Catholic Cadet Choir. He was associated with Bethel Church and at the time of his death, was music director and organist at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. He was the former owner of Twiggs & Ivy Florist.Mr. Fleshren was a member of American Guild of Organists, having served as Dean of the Charleston Chapter from 1992 until 1994, and was a member of the Baroque Singers, Vox Aeterna and the Charleston Renaissance Ensemble.Mr. Fleshren is survived by his brother, Donald F. Fleshren of Herndon, Va., and his sister, Kathleen F. (Mrs. Emmett) Seifferth of Belleville, Ill., one niece and four nephews.A Memorial Mass for Mr. Fleshren will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad St., in downtown Charleston, on Monday, July 2, 2001, at 4 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Fleshren's memory may be made to Mepkin Abbey, 1098 Mepkin Abbey Road, Moncks Corner, S.C. 29461-4796.The Fleshren family is being assisted by MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St., Charleston, S.C.
