Col. David Eugene Mahaffey, USAR, retired, widower of Elizabeth Newman Mahaffey. Residence, Cottageville, S.C. The relatives and friends of Lt. Col David E. Mahaffey are invited to attend the funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2001, at 4 o'clock. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. Interment, Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Lt. Col Mahaffey was born September 14, 1913, in Laurens County, S.C., the son of Augustus L. Mahaffey and Jessie Hix Mahaffey. Lt. Col Mahaffey was retired from the U.S. Amry Reserve and served during W.W.II. He was a member of the Baptist church, owner and founder of Munford Do It Yourself Stores. A graduate of the Citadel Class of 1936, a member of the Brigadier Club, former city councilman of Isle of Palms and former member of the Isle of Palms Exchange Club. Survivors are three sons, David Eugene Mahaffey , Jr., of Cottageville, S.C., Francis DeLorne Mahaffey of Woodford, Va., James Lewis Mahaffey of Richmond, Va. Two daughters, Elizabeth M. Keller of Cottageville, S.C., and Jessie M. Sessions of Hollywood, S.C., one sister-in-law, Mary White Newman of Sumter, S.C. Four grandchildren, Beth S. Summers, Gene Mahaffey, DeLorne Mahaffey and Rachel M. Shannon and six great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 4 Carriage Lane, Charleston, S.C. 29407.
