TITLE: Robert Deloach SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 28, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** DELOACH, Robert Mr. Robert Lee DeLoach, born November 12, 1920, in Varnville, Hampton County, S.C., passed away on June 27, 2001, at Hilton Head Island, S.C. Mr. DeLoach was retired from F.W. Woolworth Company and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Maritime Service, serving as a Nautical Engineer in the Submarine Infested North Atlantic. His wife, the former Miriam Shearouse of Savannah, Ga., predeceased Mr. DeLoach. During his retirement years he devoted the majority of his time to his vegetable garden, doing volunteer work for St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hampton, S.C., and visiting his many friends and family members, Mr. DeLoach was a former Faithful Navigator, 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, R. Michael and Heather DeLoach of Valrico, Fla.; brothers, Col. J.W. DeLoach (Retd.) of Columbia, S.C., T. Ralph DeLoach and Don C. DeLoach of Varnville, S.C.; sisters, Jane DeLoach Baxley of Varnville, S.C., Elizabeth (Zan) Bradley of Charleston, S.C., and Winnie D. Walters of Baton Rouge, La. Me. DeLoach also had many nephews and nieces, cousins, relatives and close friends throughout the country by whom he will be forever remembered. At Mr. DeLoach's request, in lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 703 5th St. East, Hampton, S.C. 29924, would be greatly appreciated and lovingly received. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hampton, conducted by Father Mike Hussey, with burial in the Sand Hill Cemetery directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, and Saturday morning until 10 a.m., when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
