His funeral service will be Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 12 noon in J. Henry Stuhr's Inc, East Cooper Chapel. Entombment, with full military honors, will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Jim was born in Annapolis, Md., the son of Joe and Olga Hedges Ashley, and was reared in Arkansas and Kansas. He served in the naval aviation community and retired as a Navy Career Counselor. His 24-year career included two tours in Vietnam. After retirement, he continued his love of aviation as a private pilot and aircraft owner and was active in the Civil Air Patrol. A well-known agent with Island Realty on Isle of Palms, he was a member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. In addition to his wife Janice, he is survived by his son, Daniel Ashley of Shawnee Mission, Kans., a stepson, George W. Fisette of Charleston, stepdaughter, Anne Marie Keeling of Mt. Pleasant, two brothers, Richard Ashley and Stephen Ashley. His grandchildren and first wife, Lucy May Ashley also survive.
