TITLE: David Weldon Whipple SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 5, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** Master Chief Petty Officer, David Weldon Whipple, U.S. Navy, Ret., 64, of North Charleston, a construction representative with the Charleston Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southern Division, died Sunday in a local hospital. Born in LaCrosse, Wis., he was the son of Weldon Talman Whipple and Ruth Emma Willer Whipple Pretasky. Mr. Whipple served 22 years in the Navy and served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He attended the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse and attended North Charleston United Methodist Church. Mr. Whipple was a member of the Fleet Reserve. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Pearce Whipple; daughters, Linda Christine W. Ugaste of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Michelle Lynn Wolfram of Spring Grove, Ill.; a son, Thomas David Whipple of Sterling, Va.; a step-daughter, Leslie B. Lovingood of Summerville; a sister, F. Diane George of LaCrosse, Wis., and a brother, Steven Douglas Whipple of Hazelhurst, Wis.; eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Whipple was a construction representative with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southern Division. He died Sunday in a North Charleston hospital. Mr. Whipple is also survived by his mother, Ruth Emma Willer Whipple Pretasky of LaCrosse, Wisc.
