TITLE: Donald Vandertill SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 28, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** VANDERTILL, Donald Donald Stephan "Van" Vandertill, 81, a retired home-builder, entered into eternal rest, Monday, June 25, 2001, in a Fort Worth, Texas hospital. Donald Vandertill was born May 1, 1920, in Royal Oak, Mich. He proudly served as a pilot during World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Germany until the War ended. Following the War, he lived in Grand Rapids, Mich., and worked as a home builder. In 1971, he moved to Texas and worked for the Corpus Christi school district. In 1993, he moved to the Isle of Palms and remained active in the Lowcountry chapter of the ex-POWs and worked as a volunteer at the Veteran's Hospital. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms. Donald never met a stranger and he will be dearly missed by friends and family. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vandertill are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Saturday morning, June 30, 2001, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at STUHR'S MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Friday evening, June 29, 2001, from 4 until 7 o'clock. Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Katherine "Kay" (Tidwell) Vandertill of Isle of Palms, S.C., a son, Michael R. Vandertill and his wife, Pamela Klein Vandertill of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; a daughter, Myrna Nicolette and her husband, Harold Nicolette of Isle of Palms, S.C., a brother, James C. Vandertill of Perrysburg, Ohio, and five grandchildren, Travis, Trey, Tara, Taylor, and Timothy Nicolette, all of the Isle of Palms, S.C. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, South Carolina Chapter, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, S.C. 29063.
