Thompson, 68, husband of Vondetta Miller Thompson, of 260 North Port Bass Drive, Fair Play, SC died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at his residence. A native of Paw Creek, NC, he was the son of the late Lindsey Martin & Missie Idell Smith Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a retired Planner/Estimator with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, and a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Charleston, SC. He was a US Marine Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the Charleston American Legion Post #147. In addition to his wife, of the home, he is survived by: son, Richard G. Thompson of Fair Play, SC; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Thompson of Fair Play, SC; brother, Theadore Thompson of Matthews, SC; sisters, Goldie Lineberger of Charlotte, NC and Juanita Jay of Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Rebecca Jill Thompson. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the South Union Baptist Church and also in Charlotte, NC to be announced at a later date. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Memorial may be made to Hospice of The foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
