Stiles, 69, Commander of VFW Post 10980 in Eutawville, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Charleston, S.C. Born April 24, 1932, in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of George and Helen (Sauers) Stiles and was raised a Catholic. In 1975 Mr. Stiles retired from the USAF after 20 years of service. He was employed for ten years in the grocery business. As a member of VFW Post 10980 he had previously served as Quartermaster, and Past District Commander also. Mr. Stiles was a past member of the Santee Lions Club and had served as treasurer. Mr. Stiles was an advocate worker with the Elloree High School JROTC. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; step-children, Linda C. Thomas, Pittsboro, N.C., and Michael J. Clark, Eutawville; grandchildren, Aaron J. Jackson and Ryan Thomas; and sister, Patricia Lane, Middleton, Ohio. A graveside memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2001, at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C.
