TITLE: James Edward Steen SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 25, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** James Edward "Jimmy" Steen, Jr., 63, of Summerville, a retired fireman at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Saturday in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Charleston, he was the son of James E. Steen, Sr., and Sarah Elizabeth Barnett Steen. Mr. Steen served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. He was a Mason and a member of the North Charleston Exchange Club. Mr. Steen was working for the North Charleston Recreation Department as a maintenance supervisor for the ball fields. He was a member of Dorchester-Wayln Baptist Church and had served as a State Constable. Survivors include his wife, Nan Holden Steen; a son, James E. Steen, III, of Columbia; daughters, Mandy S. Saunders and Nancy S. Sealey, both of Summerville; a brother, John E. Steen of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Jackie Poplin of Santee and Jennifer Heath of Moncks Corner; six grandchildren, Eddie, Morgan, Shawn, Dalton, Ryan and Lauren. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2001, at the funeral home. Arrangements by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C.
