Mrs. Rowland was born September 15, 1901, in Old Marion County, now Dillon County, a daughter of the late Henry Ellison (Keitt) and Eudora Dew Smith. A graduate of Lander College in Greenwood, Mrs. Rowland taught math in Kirby-Smith School, Jacksonville, Fla., for 40 years. She was a member of Latta United Methodist Church. After retirement and the death of her husband, Mrs. Rowland purchased the Ellington home on Bamberg St. in Latta and lived there until moving into the Methodist Home of the Pee Dee near Florence around 1995.Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Magnolia Cemetery, where Mrs. Rowland will be buried by her sister-in-law, Pearl Stackhouse Smith, directed by KANNADAY'S FUNERAL HOME IN LATTA.She is survived by nieces and nephews, Henry Franklin Easterling of Greensboro, N.C., Louise E. McCollum Drost of Latta, Mildred Easterling of Clio, S.C., Martha E. Caffell of Oklawaha, Fla., Mrs. Steve (Pearle S.) Williamson of Florence, Wilbur Smith of Spring Field, Va., Glenn Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., Mack Smith, Jr., and Patrick Smith, both of Plant City, Fla., Ellison Smith, Jr., of Orlando, Fla., Helen S. Matthew of Orangeburg, S.C., Donald MacDougall of Farmington, Mich., and Marianna MacDougall Kenely of Ferndale, Mich.Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death by her husband, S. Lee Rowland, brothers, Legrand Smith, Mack Smith, Hartwell Smith, Ellison Smith, sisters, Mrs. Ted (Mary S.) Allen, Mrs. Henry (Louise S.) Easterling, Mrs. Walter (Vera S.) Covington, Miss Myrtis Smith, Mrs. Mack (Sarah MacDougall, daughter of Keitt's second wife, Mamie Evans, nieces, Travis E.H. Cavell, Dora S. Shelly, Margaret Smith, Cappy Covington, nephews, James Rupert Easterling, Rupert Allen, W. Edgar Allen, Ashton Allen, Ellison Smith, Vereen Smith, and Legrand Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Latta, Sunday afternoon, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Magnolia Cemetery Fund, c/o Joe Griffin, Latta, S.C. 29565.
