The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Purcell are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Saturday afternoon, July 28, 2001 at Three O'clock. Interment, Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Friday evening from Six until Seven-thirty O'clock. Mr. Purcell was born in Maxton, NC, the son of Ralph Lane Purcell and Jane McArthur Purcell. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a retired retail salesman and regional manager for U.S. Plywood/Champion International. He was a graduate of Maxton High School . He attended Furman University Community College. He was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division during WWII. He was a member of Arion Association and the Washington Light Infantry. Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Douglas Purcell, Jr. of Greenville, SC; and David Lane Purcell of Charleston, SC; one sister, Patsy Lane Purcell Braddy of Council, NC; four grandchildren, Allison Marie Purcell, Lindsay Amanda Purcell, Dana Kathryn Purcell, and Thomas Walker Purcell. Mr. Purcell was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Purcell Pearce. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 1157 Sam Rittenburg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407, or a charity of ones choice.
