TITLE: William Powell SOURCE: The Post and Courier, July 20, 2001 SUBMITTED BY: The Post and Courier FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, July 2001 *********************************************************************************************** POWELL, William GEORGETOWN - William Alfred "Billy" Powell, 58, of 1744 Montford Drive, Maryville, died Wednesday morning from injuries sustained in a job related accident at International Paper Company, Georgetown Mill. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Entombment will be at 5 p.m., Saturday, in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, directed by Georgetown Chapel of MCKENZIE FUNERAL HOME. Officiating will be Rev. Ted Sherrill, and Rev. Howard McKenzie. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Friday evening at the Georgetown Chapel. Mr. Powell was born February 3, 1942, in Georgetown County, the son of Luther James Powell, Sr., and Dorothy Mae P. Mau. He was a distinguished student and an honor graduate of Andrews High School; served as a Radarman of the U.S. Navy; was an Instrument/Electrician of the Georgetown Mill of International Paper Co.; and attended the Andrews Church of God. He was predeceased by a grandson, Wesley William Powell; a brother, Luther James "Bubba" Powell , Jr.; and a sister, Barbara J. "Bobbie" Marlowe. Surviving are, his wife, Geneva P. Powell of Georgetown; two daughters, Cynthia P. Capps and her husband, Troy, of North Charleston, and Sandra D. Powell of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Samuel M. "Sam" Powell of Andrews; two grandchildren, Troy Leo Capps, II, and Hanna Faye Capps of North Charleston; one God-son, Lonnie Pope of Georgetown.
