Pleasant. Born May 4, 1919, in Manning, he was a son of the late James C. Plowden, Sr., and the late Ethel Wells Plowden. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy and attended Erskine. He was the owner of Manning Insurance Agency. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was a charter member of Deacon Emeritus of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Williams-Burgess American Legion Post #68, where he served as Commander He was a member of the Home Lake Club and the Wilson-Nelson Hunting Club. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Kent Plowden; one son, James Covert Plowden, III; a sister, Ethel Plowden McElveen of Kingstree; and a granddaughter, Laura Kent Plowden of Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, in New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Rev. Charlie Tyler will officiate. Burial will follow in Manning Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the residence. Memorials may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
