Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland, is in charge. (The Beaufort Gazette, June 30,2001) Joseph Eldridge Oliver Joseph Eldridge Oliver, 78, of Hardeeville died Friday, June 29, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital following a long illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hardeeville Baptist Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sauls Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Mr. Oliver was born August 3, 1922, in Lepanto, Ark., a son of Samuel Monroe Oliver and Bertha Hightower Oliver. He was a Realtor, land developer and member of Hardeeville Baptist Church. He owned and operated the Pink House Restaurant House until it burned. He was founder and president of Hardeeville Development Corp. and developed Hardeeville Industrial Park. He was a former chairman of the Jasper County Development Board and former president of the Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce. He was founder and former president of the Hardeeville Merchant's Association, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and part of the occupation force in the Phillipines and Japan. Survivors include his wife, Marian H. Oliver of Hardeeville; two sons, Joey D. Oliver of Hardeeville and David-Joe Oliver of Dandridge, Tenn.; two daughters Kathleen Oliver Wilson of Hardeeville and Karen Metsendorf of Garden City, Ga.; a sister, Katie Williams of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
