Sam was born August 12, 1923 in Baaklin, Lebanon and lived in Lebanon during his early years before coming to the United States. A son of Asaad Ali Najjar and Adibe A. Najjar he attended the Frere Mariste School in Lebanon. Sam was the owner of Coastal Liquors In Mount Pleasant, the owner of Olympia Greek Restaurant in Summerville and ran the Best Western-King Charles Inn in Charleston for many years. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army. He was a member of VFW Post #147 James Island. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, July 16, 2001 in Nativity Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial with Military Honors will be in the U.S. National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at 1 P.M. Visitors may call at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 50 Wentworth Street, 722-8371 from 5-7 PM on Sunday, July 15th. A Vigil Service will be held at 7PM. Survivors include his wife, Mona A. Najjar of Charleston, two sons, Richard Samuel Najjar of Beaufort, SC, Michael Theodore Najjar of McDonna, Ga, one daughter, Julia Zane Najjar Parker of Charleston, two brothers, Abdulla Najjar of Atlanta, Ga, Ali Najjar of Virginia, two sisters, Samira Najjar of Brewster, NY, Sara Najjar Wilson of Reston, Va, and three grandchildren.
