Mr. Morse was born February 23, 1917, in Blytheville, Ark. Prior to his arrival in Charleston in 1999 with his wife, Josephine Tucker Morse, Mr. Morse had a long and distinguished career in real estate and engaged in numerous civic activities in Little Rock, Ark. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member and president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a founder and chairman of the Rector Phillips Morse real estate firm, the largest full service real estate firm in Arkansas. In 1983, he was elected national president of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Mr. Morse served as Mayor of the City of Little Rock and was elected to two terms on the Little Rock City Board of Directors. He served as president of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Little Rock United Way, the Little Rock Red Cross, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Little Rock Boy's Club. He was a member of the Fifty for the Future, a select group of leaders in the greater Little Rock area. He was a member and former president of the Little Rock Country Club and former president of the Board of Trustees of the Epworth Assembly in Ludington, Mich. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Little Rock and a former vestryman. Mr. Morse is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melinda M. Laurens of Charleston, S.C.; a son, John Tucker Morse of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Dr. William H. Morse of Memphis, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., on Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Mark's Church in Little Rock, Ark. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2001, at St. James Episcopal Church in Charleston, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Gadsden, 1 Gadsden Way, Charleston, S.C. 29412.
