Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First African Baptist Church, St. Helena Island, with burial in Coffin Point Cemetery. Mrs. Mitchell was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Savannah, a daughter of James and Mary Jane Aiken. She was educated in Chatham County, Ga., public schools and she had lived on St. Helena Island since 1949. A domestic engineer, she worked at Beaufort Elementary School from 1964 to 1976 as a custodian and also worked for local families. She was a member of First African Baptist Church, St. Helena Island. She was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Bell Aiken Adams. Surviving are a son, Joseph Aiken of St. Helena Island; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
