TITLE: Clelia Matthew Mengebier SOURCE: The Post and Courier, July 26, 2001 SUBMITTED BY: The Post and Courier FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, July 2001 *********************************************************************************************** MENGEBIER, Clelia BRIDGEWATER, VA. - Clelia Matthew Mengebier, 77, of Bridgewater, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home. She was born June 24, 1924, in Charleston, S.C., and was the daughter of the late John D. and Olive McGowan Matthew. Mrs. Mengebier resided in Charleston until 1954 when she and her family moved to Harrisonburg, Va. She taught reading in the Rockingham County School System for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Shenandoah Valley Reading Council, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Mrs. Mengebier had served on the Board of the North River Library and with the Daffodil Committee of the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Dr. William L. Mengebier, three daughters, Clelia M. La Monica of Marshall, Va., Nancy E. Mengebier of Merced, Calif., and Margaret M. Kyger of Bridgewater, Va.; two brothers, Robert T. Matthew of Yonges Island, S.C., and William M. Matthew of Charleston, S.C., and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, afternoon at 2 p.m., at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church by Rev. John F. Glover. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 7 p.m., at the KYGER & TROBAUGH FUNERAL HOME IN HARRISONBURG. Memorial donations may be made to the North River Library, P.O.
