COLUMBIA - Graveside service for Robert Jackson McCarley, Jr., 94, of 
Laurel Crest, will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian 
Church Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be the elders of First 
Presbyterian Church. Active Pallbearers will be grandsons. Memorials 
may be made to First Presbyterian Church. Active Pallbearers will be 
grandsons. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1324 
Marion St., Columbia, S.C. 29201, Laurel Crest Expansion Fund, 100 
Joseph Walker Dr., West Columbia, S.C. 29169, or Tri County Hospice, 
111 Executive Point Blvd., Columbia, S.C. 29210. DUNBAR FUNERAL HOME, 
Gervais Street Chapel, is in charge. Mr. McCarley died Wednesday, June 
27, 2001. Born in Bennettsville, S.C., he was the son of the late 
Robert Jackson McCarley, Sr., and Elizabeth Ann Morrison McCarley. An 
engineering graduate of Clemson College, Class of 1930, he was retired 
from Exxon Corporation after 38 years. He was a member of First 
Presbyterian Church for 81 years, and was elected Elder Emeritus in 
1989. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mabel Melville McCarley of 
Laurel Crest; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jackson McCarley, III, 
and Kay Hodges McCarley of Georgetown; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy 
M. and Ralph Archer o Chapin; seven grandchildren; one great 
granddaughter; and one niece. He was predeceased by a sister, 
Elizabeth McCarley Mills.  (The Post and Courier June 28, 2001)
