Richard L. Matta 
SLIDELL, La. - Richard L. "Richie" Matta, 57, a musician and 
entertainer, died at his home Sunday, July 8, 2001. The family will 
receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacob Schoen and Son, 
New Orleans. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Biloxi 
National Cemetery. Formerly a resident Beaufort, Mr. Matta was born in
New Orleans, La. A Marine Corps veteran, he had two tours of duty in 
Vietnam. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 8290, Lacomb, 
Miss., a former member of Krew of Pontchartrain, a member of New 
Orleans Tarpon Club and International Association of Fire Fighters and 
Police Association. He was an inductee in the Louisiana Music Hall of 
Fame. Surviving are his mother, Maria Dolores Soto of New Orleans; his
wife of 32 years, Aldie Loring Matta of Slidell; a son, Joseph Matta 
of New Orleans; and a sister, Betty Jean Vasquez Panzeca of New Orleans
