Magwood, Jr. (Captain Jr.), 73, husband of Alva C. Magwood of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Captain Jr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Magwood are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Friday, June 29, 2001, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, at 2 o'clock. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at STUHR'S MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Friday from 12 noon until time of service. Mr. Magwood was born February 17, 1928, in Charleston, S.C. a son of the late Clarence A. and Ethel Legare Magwood. He was a Commercial Fisherman and a native of Little Bulls Island and a resident of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., where he shrimped the coastal waters of the Atlantic for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational School and an honorary life member of the South Carolina Shrimpers Association. Surviving are his wife, Alva C. Magwood of Mt. Pleasant and a long-time companion, Raenell Brooks, also of Mt. Pleasant, two sons, Scott Magwood and Wayne Magwood, both of Mt. Pleasant, and a daughter, Sherryl Magwood, also of Mt. Pleasant, four sisters, Marcia Curran, Thomasine Parham, and Mary Causey, all of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Ann Griffin of St. Petersburg, Fla., and three brothers, Andrew Magwood of Sullivan's Island, Dan Magwood of Mt. Pleasant, and Earl Magwood of Charleston, S.C. In addition, Mr. Magwood leaves nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of friends and close loved ones who will miss him dearly. His legacy to the shrimping industry will be remembered always.
