Lavender, 75, of Hanahan died at his home on Saturday, June 30, 2001, after a brief illness. The funeral service will be 11 o'clock , Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at First Baptist Church of North Charleston. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening (Monday) at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. A native of Charleston, he was the son of Edmund J. and Leila Horne Lavender. After serving in the Navy during W.W.II, he was a service manager for several automobile dealerships and for the past 25 years he has operated Lavender Cabinets, a family business, with his son Walter, Jr. An avid hunter and fisher, he was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of North Charleston. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Norine Hill Lavender, his son and daughter-in-law, Walter H. and Janet Lavender, Jr., of Hanahan, his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve Pierce of Timmonsville, S.C., three grandchildren, Melanie Jean Lavender, Stephanie Renee Pierce, and Ryan Steven Pierce. A sister, Doris Vikla of Delaware also survives .Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Charleston, 4217 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C. 29405, or Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leeds Ave., North Charleston , S.C. 29405.
