The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home. Mr. Knighton was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Charleston, a son of Melvin Knighton Sr. and Rosetta Oliver Knighton. He worked for Stanson Chemical Company for 39 years. He was a member of New A.M.E. Zion Church, Paterson, N.J. Surviving are a son, Bernard Battle of Lake Placid, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Lynn Phillips of Hartsville, and Donica McClain of Bennettsville; three brothers, Edward Knighton of Paterson, Benjamin Knighton of Hackensack, N.J., and Melvin Knighton of Pamona, Calif; and five sisters, Pearl Barnwell of Seabrook, Sallie Carr of Wilingboro, N.J., Cherry Powell of Paterson, Rosemary Lewis of Leavenworth, Kan., and Laura Knighton-Ketter of Hawthorne, Calif.
