Funeral services will be 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, directed by WATERS-POWELL FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. He was born in Gastonia, N.C., a son of the late Thad Bryant and Kathleen Hook Hinnant. He served in the 101st Airborne Corp Headquarters during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the Porter Military Academy, attended Furman University, and graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School. He was an attorney at law, and the Florence County Public Defender for 28 years. Mr. Hinnant was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Clergy Society of South Carolina. He was a former member of the Vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Florence County Bar Association, and the Public Defenders' Corp. He was also a member of the Gamecock Club. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Jho Wheeler Hinnant of the home; four sons, Ernest Bryant Hinnant, Jr., of Charlotte, N.C., Dewey Wheeler Hinnant of Martinsville, Va., Coley Culpeper (Shelley) Hinnant and Cody McGill Hinnant, of Florence; two grandsons, E.B. Hinnant, III, and Thomas Culpeper Hinnant; a granddaughter, Caroline Reynolds Hinnant; and a nephew, Thad Bryant Hinnant, Jr., of Columbia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church Home for Children (York Place), 234 Kings Mountain Street, S.C. 29745.
