"Luke" Glover, Sr., United States Navy retired Senior Chief Petty Officer, went to be with the Lord on the morning of July 1, 2001, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born December 30, 1937, in Charleston, S.C., and lived as a young boy in Jacksonboro, S.C. He graduated from Murray Vocational School and attended St. Leo College. Tours of duty included Key West, Fla., Millington, Tenn., and Oak Harbor, Wash. In 1965, he transferred to Norfolk, Va., where he retired in 1978. His last sea tour was on the U.S.S. Independence. He was a devoted husband and father for 46 years, went to countless baseball, football and basketball games, was the "Bar-B-Q-tioner" at family cookouts, and always hit the last high note of a Happy Birthday song. He taught his children to take pride in themselves, to respect others, and to be true to all those they hold dear. His wife was the true love of his life. He was predeceased by his father, Marion H. Glover and mother Frances Glover Sprouse. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Evelyn A. Glover and seven children; three daughters, Linda G. McLaughlin and husband, Bill, of Richmond, Diane G. Davis and husband Andrew of Chesapeake, and Allison G. Rodriguez and husband Peter , of Norfolk; and sons, E. Wesley Glover, Jr., of Ft. Worth, Texas, Christopher Glover of Norfolk, Philip Scott Glover of Norfolk, and Glen A. Glover and wife Melissa of Suffolk. Mr. Glover leaves behind seven grandchildren; Michael and Erin McLaughlin of Richmond, Peter and Mateo Rodriguez of Norfolk, Steven Glover of Suffolk, and the Davis twins that are due in December. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Hill, of Walterboro, S.C., and several sisters-in-law and brothesr-in-law, other extended family members and friends. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Christ First Community Fellowship in Norfolk by Dr. James A. Bradshaw. Burial with full military honors will follow in Forst Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Friends may join the family at SMITH AND WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, NORFOLK CHAPEL, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Norfolk Camp, P.O.
