Born August 17, 1924, in Finksburg, he was the son of the late William and Loma Hubbard Gist. He was the husband of Ruth B. Abbott Gist, his wife of 56 years. He was a carpenter with Local #101 in Baltimore. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Life Member of VFW Molleville Farm Post #467, Life Member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, Life Member of the NRA, Life Member of the North Carroll Rod and Gun Club, member of American Legion Carroll Post #31. He was an avid trapshooter, hunter, fisherman and sportsman. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Finksburg. Surviving besides his wife are, sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin R. and Sandra Gist of Finksburg, Gary M. and Brenda Gist of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Deborah R. Gist Gaver of Westminster; son, David L. Gist of Finksburg; six grandchildren, Shelby and Valerie Gist of Charleston, S.C., Ryan Reese of Westminster, Nathaniel, Braenna and Kyle Gist, all of Finksburg. He was predeceased by son, Daniel R. Gist, and four brothers, Woodrow, Harry, Dorsey, and Thomas Gist. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2 p.m., at the FLETCHER FUNERAL HOME, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, with his pastor the Rev. Robert G. Whitting officiating. Interment in Sandy Mount Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
