The memorial service will be 2:00 o'clock Friday, June 1, 2001 at St. Peters AME Church, 4650 Sanders Ave. North Charleston with the Rev. Levern Stevenson officiating. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. GREENRIDGE RD. CHAPEL. Mrs. Gathers was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 24, 1937. She was the only child of Bernice and William Wiggins. Juanita was educated in Kings County Schools. In 1953, she married Samuel James Johnson Sr. From this union was born five children. Juanita moved to Charleston in 1979. After her marriage to Julius Gathers, who preceded her in death, she worked as a LPN and retired from White Oak Manor in 1999. Preceding Juanita in death were two of her children, Samuel James Johnson, Jr. and Carol Ann Johnson. Juanita leaves to mourn her four daughters, Yolanda(Lawrence) Morrison of N. Charleston, Barbara McCain and Bernice Albert, both of Brooklyn, NY, Juanita Johnson of Lakehurst, NJ and her son, Norman Carter of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Shakisha (Shun)Redmond, Maurice Simmons, Carla Simmons, Dewayne Johnson, Monique Johnson, Shakeem McCain, Iyesha McCain, Atiya McCain, Ronald Albert, Jr.,Trina (Charles) Anderson, Erica Burke, LeMeik Johnson,Angeleek Johnson and four great-grandchildren, Timothy Myers, Shun Redmond, Jr., BrisaFraizer and Charles Anderson, Jr. In addition, she is survived by a host of cousins, aunts,uncles, and friends.
