Bostick Funeral Home of Ridgeland is in charge. (The Beaufort Gazette, June 29, 2001) Effie Garvin Effie Garvin, 86, of Pineland, died June 27, 2001, at Roper Hospital, Charleston. The family will receive friends from noon until 12:45 today at Gillison Branch Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Gillison Branch Baptist Church in Pineland with burial in the church cemetery. Ms. Garvin was born March 18, 1915, in Grays, a daughter of Cornelius Santlin and Annie Taylor. She was a chef and a member of Gillison Branch Baptist Church, where she sang in the senior choir, served as a pastor's aide and was the treasurer of the choir union. Survivors include four sons, John Q. Garvin of Spring Lake, N.C., Elmer D. Garvin of Pineland, Earl Garvin of Eden, N.C., and Harold L. Garvin of White Plains, N.Y.; three daughters, Flora V. Johnson of Providence, R.I., Jacqueline Randolph of White Plains, N.Y. , and Vera Wilson of New York City; a brother Hayward Taylor of New York City; four sisters, Ethebell, Charlene and Betty, all of Beaufort and Louise of New Jersey; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
