Born in Greenwood, S.C., Mr. Gardner was a son of the late Ross Eugene and Elizabeth Duckett Gardener. He graduated from the Citadel and had retired from Greenwood Mills in Liberty. Mr. Gardner was a latitudinarian and was a member of the American Legion in Liberty. He was a past member of the Lions Club in Pickens County. Mr. Gardner was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Pacific Area having served from 1944 to 1946 Surviving are his wife, Ann (Nancy) Moore Gardner, of the home; five sons, Wesley D. Gardner, of Niceville, Fla., Blake R. Gardner, of Anderson, Kent F. Gardner, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Alan B. Gardner, of Clemson, and Stacey Q. Gardner, of Pumkintown; four brothers, James W. Gardner, of Aiken, S.C., R.E. (Gene) Gardner, Jr., of Greenwood, and Clyde Gardner and Ronald Gardner, both of Hartsville, S.C.; and 12 grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, in the Chapel of ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME, conducted by the Reverend Zane Talley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621. The family is at the home.
