Born in the Puddin' Swamp community of Turbeville, he was a son of the late David Chalmers Gamble, Sr., and the late Mamie Kinney Gamble. Mr. Gamble was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and as former Operational Manager of the church. He was a graduate of Turbeville High School and attended Clevenger Business School. He began his career with Tuomey Hospital in 1954 serving in various capacities of Food Service and was the first Director of the Sumter County EMS. He served as the Sumter County Coroner for 16 years and was currently the Sumter County Deputy Coroner. He was a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association, the Woodmen of the World and former member of the Civitans. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three sons, David Gamble and his wife Robin of Anderson, S.C., Donnie Gamble and his wife Ginny of Summerville; Billy Gamble and his wife Teri of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter, Ann Geddings and her husband Vernon, of Sumter; four sisters, Azilea G. Plowden of Manning, Kate G. Kirby of Cades, Blanche G. Odom of Alcolu, and Italean G. Hudson of West Columbia; a sister-in-law, Dorothy D. Gamble of Turbeville; nine grandchildren, Caleb Gamble, Halee Gamble, Laura Kate Gamble, Ben Gamble, Taylor Geddings, Parker Geddings, Mattie Gamble, Michael Gamble and Will Gamble. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W. Goodman Gamble and Frank Gamble; and a sister, Jeanette G. Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Edward McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Turbeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Atkinson, Dale Atkinson, Keels Kirby, Eddie Odom, Joey Burgess, Thomas Burgess, Dean Hudson, and Charlie Glidewell. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former employees of the Sumter County EMS and Sumter County Coroner, Verna Moore. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the ELMORE-HILL-MCCREIGHT FUNERAL HOME and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W.
