(The Beaufort Gazette July 30, 2001) Charles Aiken Campbell Charles Aiken Campbell, 73, of Daufuskie Island, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Augusta, Ga. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial in Grimes Cemetery, Grays. Mr. Campbell was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Grays, a son of Charles Pierce Campbell and Mary Horton Campbell. He was a retired Coast Guard petty officer. After retirement, he worked as a chief engineer on seagoing tugs in the Gulf of Mexico. Surviving are a daughter, Martha C. McCay of Daufuskie Island; a son, David Campbell of Daufuskie Island; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
