TITLE: Adam Leonel Brunnemer SOURCE: The Post and Courier, July 15, 2001 SUBMITTED BY: The Post and Courier FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, July 2001 *********************************************************************************************** GASTONIA - Mr. Adam Leonel Brunnemer, 87, of 1351 Robinwood Road, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Covenant Village.A native of Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Mary Zula Lybrand Brunnemer, Sr. He was husband of the late Margaret McBane Brunnemer. Mr. Brunnemer graduated from the Gastonia High School, a graduate of the school of Financial Public Relations at Northwestern and the school of Banking of the South at LSU. He has served as president of Gaston Co. Chamber of Commerce, Gastonia Jaycees, Gastonia Civitan Club, Gastonia Little Theater, Gaston Co. Personnel Association, Sportsman Club of Gastonia. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Gaston Community Hospital, Salvation Army Boys Club, Mary Ellen Nelson Center, Gaston County Chapter American Red Cross and All American City Celebration. He was senior Advisor of Gastonia Jaycees and Life member, Senior Advisor of Gastonia Boys Club, 58 year member of American Legion and 57 year member and life member of Civitan. He served as board member of Gaston Country Club, Gaston Co. YMCA, Gaston Co. Heart Society, Gaston Co. Cancer Society, Sacred Heart College Board of Advisors, Lenior Rhyne College Development, Gaston College Advisory Council, Family Counseling Service, Children's Council, Human Relations Council, Gastonia Industrial Diversification Commission and First Gaston Foundation, Inc., served two years in U.S. Coast Guard in W.W.II, aboard U.S.S. Menges.He was elected to City Council of Gastonia and served as Mayor Pro Tem, was master of ceremonies for two Debutante Balls and one Heart Ball, broadcast high school games for 22 years, master of ceremonies for all 19 of the Chamber of Commerce Sports Banquets. He received the Allen Sims Community Foundation Award, Citizenship Award of Civitan, Community Service Award of Junior Women's Club, Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame, Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. Sanford and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club. He was Vice President of First Union National Bank and also of Ti-Caro, Inc.He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as President of Luther League, Men's Bible Class, Lutheran Church Men and the Congregation and was a Sunday School Teacher.Survivors include his son, A. Leonel "Buddy" Brunnemer, Jr., of Charlotte, daughter and son-in-law, Martha B. and Thomas Harken of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughers, Brooks McBane Harken and Margaret Conyers Harken, 26 nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law , and four sisters-in-law. He was the last survivor of 11 children. A funeral service will be held at 11 am., Monday, July 16, 2001, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Revs. Rammy E. Lybrand and Jack Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.The family will receive friends today at Covenant Village from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., and tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at MCLEAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS.Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church , 805 S.
