Atkinson, 82, of 1393 Brantley, Ave., Summerton, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2001, in the Lamar Chapel of KISTLER-HARDEE FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Fair Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery.Mr. Atkinson was born in Sumter County on September 15, 1918. He was a son of the late Doc and Estelle Hatfield Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson enjoyed fishing and loved to play the harmonica. He was also very good working with his hands.Surviving are four sons, Dickie (Annie) Atkinson, Willie James (Dell) Atkinson, Randy (Neva) Atkinson, all of Charleston, and Keith (Charmin) Atkinson, of Harleyville. Three daughters, Ruby Rhame of Indiana, Alice (James) Thomas of Summerton and Shelvey (Ron) Shuler of Summerville. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday night, at KISTLER-HARDEE FUNERAL HOME in Lamar, and at all other times at the home of Vera Wright in Lamar.
